| For Immediate Release March 12, 2001 UNCA's Writers at Home Series Presents Carolyn Coman March 18 UNCA’s Writers at Home reading series continues at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 18, at Malaprop’s Bookstore/Cafe, 55 Haywood St., downtown Asheville with a readings by Carolyn Coman. Writers at Home is part of the Great Smokies Writing Program, a consortium of the Western North Carolina writers’ community and UNC Asheville’s Creative Writing Program. The program is free and open to the public. Coman is the author of several award-winning novels for young adults. "Many Stones," her most recent novel, was a 2000 National Book Award finalist and also received a 2001 Printz Honor Award. Her novel, "What Jamie Saw," received the 1996 Newberry Honor Award and was also a 1995 National Book Award finalist. Coman's publisher is Asheville’s own Front Street Books, a distinguished publisher of books for children and young adults. Coman is currently on the faculty member of Vermont College’s Writing for Children Program. She has taught at the Harvard Extension and Harvard Summer School and has also worked as an editor and bookbinder.
