| For Immediate Release October 26, 2001 UNCA Foundation Board Elects New Directors, Officers The UNC Asheville Board of Directors elected new officers and new directors to its 36-member board at its annual meeting October 25 on the UNCA campus. David Whilden, senior trust officer, Boys Arnold Trust Company, was re-elected chair, and Alan Thornburg, attorney with Patla, Straus, Robinson & Moore, was re-elected associate chair. Beverly Cutter Modlin, UNCA vice chancellor for university relations, was re-elected secretary, and Wayne McDevitt, UNCA vice chancellor for administration and financial affairs, was re-elected treasurer. New directors elected to three-year terms were: Robert Bayer, founder and former CEO of American Threshold Industries; James R. Buckner, regional vice president, Compass Learning; David Cogburn, dermatologist with Carolina Mountain Dermatology; Brenda Dwight, retired Aetna Life & Casualty sales, marketing, and management executive; Bonnie Habel, retired educator and published author; David Holcomb, owner of commercial real estate company; David Phillips, vice president, western region, CP&L; Pamela Mills Turner, chair, Mills Manufacturing Inc.; and Barbara Whitaker, retired owner and manager of property management, retail and wholesale import business. Appointed to one-year terms were O.C. Edward, retired Episcopal priest and seminary professor, College for Seniors representative; Julie Shaddix, UNCA Student Government Association president, student representative; and David Wells, American Express Financial certified financial planner, alumni representative. Wayne Kirby, UNCA music department chair and professor, and Cathy Pons, UNCA foreign language department chair and associate professor, were appointed one-year terms as faculty representatives. Robert Yearout, management and accounting professor, was re-elected to a one-year faculty representative appointment. Re-elected to second three-year terms were Jeannie Davis, Walter McConnell and Alan Thornburg.
