UNCA Offers Fairy Tale Dance Class for Young Women

Local young women will have a chance to become princesses, fair maidens and an assortment of other lively characters at UNC Asheville’s summer Fairy Tale Dance Class June 18-29. The class will be taught by Josefa Briant, a professional dancer and educator.

Designed for girls in grades 3-8, the class will explore real and imaginary characters from fairy tales and familiar children’s stories. In addition to dance and music, costumes, masks and props will be used to bring the fairy tales to life. The Fairy Tale Dance class will offer students a unique opportunity for self-expression, creativity and learning through individual and group work.

Class will meet from 8 a.m.-noon Monday-Friday. Tuition is $200 per student. Space is limited; students are encouraged to apply early.

Briant has performed professionally in Israel, worked under Martha Graham’s direction and served as assistant choreographer with Alvin Ailley in New York City. She currently teaches dance at UNCA’s Super Saturday Program and the Jewish Community Center.
