At the recent start-of-school faculty meeting, UNC Asheville Academic Affairs Vice Chancellor Tom Cochran announced faculty promotions and new department chairs and program directors.

Promoted from associate to full professor were: Dean Brock, computer science; Peter Caulfield, literature and language; Jim McGlinn, education; Dwight Mullen, political science; and William Sabo, political science.

Promoted from assistant to associate professor were: Gwen Ashburn, literature and language; Karen Cole, education; Don Diefenbach, mass communications; Tim Forrest, biology; Heon Lee, sociology; and Ellie Marsh, library research.

New department chairs and program directors named were: Ken Betsalel, political science; Dean Brock, computer science; Margaret Downes, Key Center for Service-Learning; Wayne Kirby, music; Mary Anna LaFratta, multimedia arts and sciences; Linda Nelms, undergraduate research program; David Peifer, mathematics; Michael Ruiz, physics; and William Sabo, interdisciplinary studies.
