| For Immediate Release January 26, 2001 Endowed Aesthetics Lecture Series Begins Jan. 30 at UNCA Sarah Worth, assistant professor of philosophy at Furman University, will discuss "What or When is Art?" at 12:15 Tuesday, Jan. 30, in UNCA’s Lipinsky Auditorium. The talk is the inaugural lecture in the Laurence and Joyce Dorr series "Aesthetics: Thinking Beyond Experience." The event is free and open to the public. Worth earned her doctorate degree in philosophy from the State University of New York at Buffalo where she specialized in aesthetics. At Furman, she is co-editor of the American Society for Aesthetics Newsletter, a reviewer for the Journal of Aesthetics and Art Criticism and is a member of the program committee of the American Society for Aesthetics Eastern Division. The lecture series has been made possible by a gift from Laurence and Joyce Dorr, UNCA emeriti professors. Laurence served as Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, chair of the Philosophy Department and professor in the Humanities Program. Joyce designed, directed and chaired the UNCA music program. She was an instructor in the Music Department as well as the Arts and Ideas Program. Their endowed lecture series seeks to promote philosophical reflection on the arts.
