College for Seniors Launches Summer Term

Chinese history, summer wildflowers, and videography are among the varied topics offered through the N.C. Center for Creative Retirement’s College for Seniors summer term beginning July 2. The program, for adults age 50 and older, is designed to make learning fun when full-time work is over, says Cissie Stevens, program director. The college, now in its 12th year, has no grades or tests and little, if any, homework.

Students, who attend classes on the UNCA campus, can choose from 20 courses and a summer Chautauqua series given by local authors. As in past terms, traditional liberal arts and several computer courses will be offered. However, the summer session also offers a number of experiential classes, including creative autobiography, yoga, photography, watercolor painting and paper making.

College for Seniors classes meet July 2-31. Each class is priced individually and students may take more than one class. For more information or an application, call the College for Seniors at 828/251-6384.
