| For Immediate Release September 18, 2001 UNCA Continues Cultural and Special Events Season with Anima Oct. 6 The six-piece ensemble Anima will take center stage when UNC Asheville continues its cultural and special events season at 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, in UNCA’s Lipinsky Auditorium. General admission tickets are $18. Anima’s highly acclaimed sound is a unique fusion of Brazilian, African, European, and Middle Eastern music. Using fiddles, 10-string guitar, Amazon tribal Kuluta flutes, Brazilian percussion instruments, harpsichord and recorders, this group transcends the boundaries between classical and popular art. "Espiral do Tempo" ("Spiral of Time"), Anima’s 1997 debut CD, won numerous awards, including the Movimento Award for Brazilian Popular Music for Best Instrumental CD of the year. Tickets may be purchased between 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at the UNCA Office of Student Life, Highsmith Center room 27, and may be charged by phone by calling 828/232-5000 during the hours listed above. General admission tickets are also available from Malaprop’s Bookstore/Cafe in downtown Asheville. This event is part of UNCA’s Family Weekend and is co-sponsored by UNCA’s Office of Diversity and Multicultural Affairs in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month.
