Mendy Knott, Mary Larkin to Read at UNCA March 26

UNCA's Writers at Home reading series continues at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 26, with readings by authors Mendy Knott and Mary Larkin. Writers at Home is part of the Great Smokies Writing Program, a consortium of the Western North Carolina writer's community and UNC Asheville's Creative Writing Program. The program is free and open to the public.

Playwright, poet, and prose-writing performer, Knott is the host of Cafe of Our Own, a monthly women's poetry event at Malaprop's Bookstore in Asheville. Her worked has been published in Amethyst, The Asheville Poetry Review and Raising Voices. Her plays have been featured in Asheville and Atlanta, and she travels often to perform poetry and lead writing and reading workshops. She has also published three chapbooks, "Learning the Language," "Profound, Profane or Sacred" and "More Than a Love Letter."

Larkin, a native of Birmingham, Ala., has lived and worked in Europe and on both the West and East coasts. In 1996, The Piedmont Literary Review nominated her story "I Sell Peanuts" for the Pushcart Prize. Her "Entertaining Angels" won second place in the New Voices in Poetry and Prose annual literary awards. Her short story, "Bad News," is in the Winter 2000 issue of The Nebraska Review. Other stories can be found in Calypso, Crone Chronicles, The Rio Grande Review, Indigenous Fiction, Women's Words, Black Dirt, Potato Eyes and The Chattahoochee Review.
