Teatro Hugo & Ines Brings Fanciful Puppetry to UNCA
Oct. 10 in "Short Stories"

"Short Stories," a production of Teatro Hugo & Ines presented in association with the Henson Festival of Puppet Theatre, will be staged in two performances at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, in UNCA’s Lipinsky Auditorium. The event, sponsored by UNCA’s Cultural and Special Events Committee, is appropriate for ages 10 and older.

Hugo Suarez, a native of Lima, Peru, and Ines Pasic, a native of Mostar, Bosnia-Herzegovina, met in Italy where they perfected their work together, founding Teatro Hugo & Ines in 1986. Since then, they have become beloved the world over, performing to spellbound sold-out audiences of all ages. With amazing dexterity and delightful creativity, the duo transforms the ordinary into the extraordinary. Combining mime, dance, and puppetry, Hugo and Pasic create a riot of characters composed of knees, feet, hands, elbows and a handful of props.

Originally hosted around the country as part of the 1998 Henson International Festival of Puppet Theatre, "Short Stories" introduces audiences to a parade of memorable characters in a dozen vignettes on daily life. The production has received rave reviews. The Los Angeles Times called it, "Unfailingly whimsical theater-of-marvels...a wonder of the age." A reporter from the Chicago Reader heralded Teatro Hugo & Ines as "Delightful, all-ages entertainment. Not since Marcel Marceau in his heyday have I been so entranced by an evening of wordless wonderment."

Tickets for the performances are $15 general admission and $10 children ages 10-16. Tickets are available 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at the UNCA Ticket Office, Highsmith Center room 27, and may be charged by phone by calling 828/251-6584 during the hours listed above. Tickets are also available at Malaprop’s Bookstore/Cafe, 55 Haywood St., downtown Asheville.
