UNCA's Humanities Program Hosts Workshop on India

The UNCA’s Humanities Program will offer two public talks focusing on India and Hinduism as part of the "Workshop on India" September 22-23. The talks are free and open to the public.

Sumit Ganguly, political science professor at the University of of Texas at Austin, will give a talk on "India, Pakistan and the Nuclear Threat" at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 22, in Lipinsky Auditorium. Ganguly’s area of expertise is India-Pakistan relations. He is the author of "The Origins of War in South Asia: Indo-Pakistani Conflicts Since 1947."

Patrick Olivelle, director of the Center for Asian Studies at the Univeristy of Texas at Austin, will give a talk on "History of Hinduism: An Introductory Course" at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, in the Owen Conference Center. Olivelle is the Alma Cowden Madden Centennial Professor in Humanities at the University of Texas at Austin. He is currently a visiting research fellow at Harvard University. This talk is the Humanities Department 2000 Deryl Howard Endowed Lecture.
