Theatre UNCA 1999-2000 season continues with Tom Jones’ and Harvey Schmidt’s "The Fantasticks" February 23-27 in UNCA’s Carol Belk Theatre.

Directed by UNCA Drama Department Chair Scott Walters, "The Fantasticks" is a funny and touching musical tale of young lovers who must learn about the pain of life before they can appreciate the wonders of love. The lovers quarrel mid-way through the show, but in the end, they realize that true love includes being able to see the faults as well as the fairy tale.

"This show has a remarkable combination of sophisticated music, a humorous plot and evocative poetry," said Walters. "It has been in off-Broadway production for more than 40 years, yet it still continues to touch audiences."

Curtain is at 8 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday with a 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday. Tickets are $9 general admission, $7 senior citizens and $5 students. Because of the intimate size of UNCA’s Carol Belk Theatre and often heavy demand for tickets, advance purchase is strongly advised.
