| For Immediate Release April 25, 2000 UNCA and Claxton Elementary School Create "Internet Art Gallery" UNCA students and faculty have teamed up with Claxton Elementary School to create UNCA's first "Internet Art Gallery," a display of 60 framed and matted elementary students' drawings conceptualizing the Internet. The drawings are colorful and imaginative renderings of the students' depictions of the way the Internet works and of the capabilities it provides. The exhibition will be housed in one of UNCA's largest computer labs, Robinson 006, and will be on view beginning Wednesday, April 26. In addition to the physical gallery, a virtual "eGallery" is available. The website gallery contains electronic versions of more than 90 drawings completed by Claxton students. Kern Parker, UNCA Computer Center director, who helped bring the idea to fruition said, "This exciting project has been the result of very successful collaborations between Claxton elementary school art teacher James Cassara and the Claxton administration working with UNCA's education, computer science and university computing department. Additionally, UNCA students played integral roles by working with the school, framing the art and creating the website." Cassara and Parker hope to create an on-going partnership to bring new art to the gallery each school year. Media Contacts:
