The N.C. Center for Creative Retirement’s College for Seniors launches its 2000 spring term with a variety of interesting classes and a Savannah Ragtime Festival trip. The College is open to those 50 and older. Students who attend classes on the UNCA campus can choose from 33 courses, including media ethics, creative journaling and introduction to computers. College for Seniors is designed to make learning fun when full-time work is over, says Cissie Stevens, program director. The college, now in its 12th year, has no grades or tests and little, if any, homework. Program instructors are UNCA faculty members and retirees with expertise in a particular field. One highlight of the term will be a trip to the Savannah Ragtime Festival March 30-April 2. Travelers will be led through historic Savannah by professional tour guide Grace Walker. Six ragtime events are scheduled with ample time for shopping and exploring the city. College for Seniors is also offering a related five-week class on Ragtime and the Blues beginning March 7. College for Seniors classes meet March 6-May 20. Registration deadline for the trip and classes is February 14. The $100 membership fee includes unlimited classes. For more information or an application, call the College for Seniors, 828/251-6384.
