UNC Asheville Named One of the Best 331 Colleges in the U.S.

For the sixth year running, UNC Asheville was one of the universities selected to be in The Princeton Review's "The Best 331 Colleges," an annual guidebook based on surveys of some 60,000 college students at 3,500 colleges. The "cream of the crop" ratings in the 2001 edition of the popular college guide also used information collected from campus visits and independent educational consultants.

UNCA's faculty and Chancellor Jim Mullen received student praise in the guide. Chancellor Jim Mullen
was noted as putting "the student's best interests, not his own first."  UNCA's faculty members received high marks from students for teaching ability, accessibility outside of class and knowledge of subject matter, the guide noted.  Departments earning praise include Environmental Studies, Literature, Philosophy and Two-Plus-Two Engineering. UNCA offers "a big learning experience in a small package," the guide said.

Other North Carolina colleges and universities included in the guide are: Catawba College, Davidson College, Duke University, Guilford College, N.C. State University, UNC-Chapel Hill, UNC-Greensboro, Wake Forest University and Warren Wilson College.
