| For Immediate Release February 2, 2000 Allendale Paleoindian Expedition Lecture Scheduled for February 23 The recent archaeological discovery of 11,500-year-old remains in South Carolina will be the focus of a talk at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23, at Pack Place in downtown Asheville. Albert C. Goodyear, an archaeologist at the University of South Carolina’s Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology, is guest speaker. The talk will be held at Pack Place Forum, adjacent to the Colburn Gem and Mineral Museum. Admission is $5 and free to students and Archaeological Institute of America members. Goodyear is director of the Allendale Paleoindian Expedition, which discovered the artifacts on the banks of the Savannah River in Allendale County, S.C. He will show slides of the excavation, geology and significant finds. He will also explain how volunteers can participate first-hand in the Allendale Paleoindian Expedition. The talk is sponsored by the Archaeological Institute of America and co-sponsored by the UNCA’s Humanities Program and the Department of Classics.
