UNCA FACULTY SCHOLAR

This is the third in the second series of informal profiles of UNCA's many noted faculty scholars. Written by Dr. John Stevens, director of the Office of Sponsored Scholarship and Programs, each of the weekly profiles will highlight the scholarly accomplishments and interests of faculty colleagues. We hope that you will find these profiles of interest as we celebrate the intellectual vigor that is at work on our campus.

Noah W. Allen III
Noah Allen is one of UNCA's newest faculty member and is Visiting Assistant Professor in Chemistry. He has a very diverse set of experiences, beginning as a childhood prodigy in music with piano training at the age of three. In due course this resulted in him receiving a Bachelor of Music degree from the North Carolina School of the Arts in the area of organ and harpsichord, where he was recognized as a Kenan Fellow. He then developed his interest in computer software systems and started his own company, becoming President of Synerge Support Centers, where he was also Director of UNIX Support Services.

During the last ten years, Noah has concentrated his efforts to develop himself as a scientist, completing studies for BA, BS, MS and Ph.D. degrees. He has in recent years published widely in such scientific journals as Journal of Molecular Graphics & Modeling, Structural Chemistry, Journal of the American Chemical Society and Journal of Molecular Structure with his most recent work on estrogen receptors appearing soon in the Journal of Biological Chemistry. He is now initiating a biochemistry research program to characterize structure and functionality of various nuclear receptors involved in human diseases.
