The tragedy that today has befallen Virginia Tech resonates throughout the higher education community in ways that mark our common mission, our mutual respect and our desire to express more fully our shared values. 

 

The faculty, staff, students, alumni and boards of the University of North Carolina at Asheville join me in expressing profound sorrow to the Virginia Tech community.  We affirm your strong leadership of Virginia Tech, and we commit to assisting you in any manner to help your University heal and once again shine in its glory.

 

As Chancellor of the University of North Carolina at Asheville, I know I speak for our colleagues in leadership positions throughout American higher education in wishing you strength, wisdom and grace in the days and weeks ahead.
