Peer Mentors

Peer Mentors are outstanding sophomores, juniors, and seniors who
strive to provide a support system for incoming first-year students
as they make the transition to UNCA. The mentoring program is made
up of student-leaders interested in promoting the emotional,
intellectual, and physical well-being of their peers.

Our ultimate goal is to increase the retention rate of freshmen and
to foster an institutional climate that is supportive of the success
of ethnic and racial minorities; first-generation college students;
and any student who is conditionally-admitted to UNCA. Our target
student populations are minority freshmen, but we encourage all
freshmen and transfers who are interested in joining to become part
of the program. Mentors make consistent contact with mentees to
ascertain progress and to respond by providing support, information,
and referral services.
