Minutes

1.     We continued discussion of Interdisciplinarity
            --interdisciplinary v. multidisciplinary
--interdisciplinary v. integrative (integrates all disciplines into a single topic/problem)

2.     Asheville Institute Team-a) drafting goals/objectives for Fall discussion of General Education Review. b) We will begin discussing other sorts of requirements, topics, etc. that ought to be part of a contemporary gen ed program (Diversity, Technology, Undergraduate Research Component, etc.)

3.     Assignment before 6/3: email me ideas about (a) gen ed objectives- what kinds; how many; what elements should be included, etc and about (b) those other topics we will discuss (what do you think about such requirements, why, how might they be shaped or structured into general education). I will share them with the committee members prior to the AIGE.

4.     I had Glenna Trull in Institutional Research run all of our schedules and combined that with the information you all sent me about your available times in the fall and we came up with one space. We will meet Wednesdays (actual dates and places to be determined) at 4:45-5:45. I will forward a schedule of meeting dates and locations as soon as I have set them. I will send them again at the start of the semester as a reminder. Remember that we agreed to set aside Wednesdays, 4:30-5:30, as our meeting time for Spring 2001, so let's do our best to keep that slot available, too.
