Listening project responses

The listening project was designed to gather input on UNCA’s General Education curriculum from as wide a range faculty as possible. The General Education Review Task Force sent teams into all departments and programs contributing to the General Education program. We have conducted 26 separate sessions and have written reports of each. After drafting their reports, teams sent them back to department chairs for review; chairs in turn solicited further faculty input into the report and were encouraged to add report drafts, in order to reflect more accurately the ideas, practices, and values of the faculty in their departments. Only after receiving this second level of input did we then put campus responses together for posting on the GERTF website.

All responses placed on this site are included without further editing. All responses are posted in anonymity: neither departments nor individuals are identified as the authors of specific comments.

Because the responses to each question are included without revision, and because we are including all responses, GERTF has decided to post these responses in sets, for easier reading. Each set contains responses from 5 to 6 departments or programs.  Departments or programs were assigned to sets randomly.  In this way, you will be able to go directly to those questions you are interested in, and you will not be burdened with too much information at one time.  If you would like to search for a specific issue, once you are in a given response set, you can use your browser's search feature to facilitate you interest.  (In Netscape, for example, you can use Ctl-F to find words and phrases.  In set 3 to question 3, typing "diversity" into the "find" dialogue box will take you to two places where diversity is raised in that response set.)

Please feel free to email any additional reactions to the questions below to Edward Katz at ekatz@unca.edu, or to any other member of the GERTF. We will see that your remarks are included under "further comments," also anonymously. Thank you for all of your interest and insight throughout this process.

Lastly, GERTF plans to conduct an analysis of the entire listening project, in order to distill the many comments down to a set of primary themes in response to each question. This analysis will also be posted on the website.
