Statement of Faculty Senate Action:

APC Document 5:                              Change MCOM 201 from 4 hours to 3 hours

Reduce required hours for MCOM major and minor

Effective Date:  Fall 2012

1.   Delete:        On page 207, the title and credit hours to MCOM 201:

                                    Newswriting (4)

Add:          On page 207, in place of deleted entry:

                                    Newswriting (3)

Impact:

Change keeps course consistent with other MCOM courses, and makes articulation possible with community colleges. Reducing the credit hours for this and other MCOM courses will give students more schedule flexibility and will provide the opportunity to take more course topics. The impact of the credit hour change is that students will be required to complete one less credit for the major and for faculty, the laboratory/classroom components will need reorganization.

Rationale:

This change was agreed upon by department during curricular review last year, but omitted from APC document of October 2010.
