Chair JoAnne McKnight opened the meeting at 2 PM

 

REPORTS:

 

Employee Excellence Institute: Judi Leffe

The EEI meets via teleconference every Monday at noon. Judi attended today with Debbie Decoteau. The two attending members from UNCA, plus the EEI organizer, Clarence Page (NCAT) were the only members in attendance from all 16 campuses. Today a Human Resource professional discussed the temporary employee situation. It is distressing that these meetings are so poorly attended. Notices containing discussion topics are distributed to every campus. If this information is not disseminated, no one knows to attend. JoAnne will bring this up at the next chairs meeting. It would be nice to have at least 2 members from each campus attend each meeting.

 

Chair’s Report: JoAnne McKnight

UNC Staff Leaders Conference: We need to know how many plan to attend the conference in Greensboro. We have not heard from James Wise or Brandon Hunnicutt. We have reserved an 8 passenger van. We still need to reserve rooms.

Discussion/Evaluation of Talent Show: the committee was in favor of making this the one ‘party’ thing we do each year. It is fairly easy to organize and it allows us to see a different side of our peers.  It was noted that this year’s attendance was the lowest turnout we have had for this event. There were only 2 who participated in the talent show. This was down from 12 who had initially considered it.

            Volunteers for Big South Women’s Basketball: March 7th – 10th. They need volunteers for hospitality. We discussed having a CSAC presence at the conference, however some CSAC members are already committed to serve at different venues and the timing conflicts with the staff leaders conference at NCAT. We do understand that it is important for staff leaders to contribute to this event.

            CSAC membership: JoAnne passed out a chart which shows the number of staff in each campus division. Each of us was encouraged to submit names for committee membership. Currently our vacancies include 3 for Academic Affairs, 2 for Student Affairs and 6 for Financial Affairs.

            PACE and the CSAC Website: Lisa is putting the final edits on the website. It should be up soon. The idea is to have some information change frequently and others less often. The new website will replace the need for a newsletter.

           

           

CSAC COMMITTEE REPORTS:

 

Voices of Our Peers: Yuri Koslen. Committee talked of next steps. Yuri is open to new ideas and will develop some topics for meetings.

 

CSAC Scholarship Committee: Helen Dezendorf. Helen has asked previous members of this committee if they would like to serve again. Leanna Preston, Lane Brown and Leigh McBride have responded that they will serve. Helen hopes to convene a meeting next week.

 

CAMPUS COMMITTEE REPORTS:

 

Distinguished Staff Committee Report: JoAnne McKnight. JoAnne distributed four draft documents produced by this committee. This award has been broadened to acknowledge outstanding university service from an individual, a team and a mentor. The committee hopes to have the final draft shortly.

 

UNC Asheville Community Participation and Education Initiative: JoAnne McKnight. This committee has not met yet.

 

Leadership Training/Temporary Task Force:  no report.

 

Sexual Harassment Committee: Yuri Koslen. This campus committee has not met in some time and there is interest in reviving it. Organizers would like to have representation from across campus. This committee will meet on an ‘as needed’ basis only. Members will serve two year terms. This committee will report to the VCAA and the Faculty Senate. Email Yuri if you have an interest in serving on this committee.

 

Miscellaneous

Book Scholarship for Staff Members: Debbie Decoteau. Debbie is hoping to hear from Tom Lawton and Suzanne Bryson this week as to the appropriateness of this expenditure.

 

Approval of Minutes:   Minutes from the February 5th meeting were approved.
