University of North Carolina at Asheville CSAC Meeting Red Oak Room February 5, 2007, 11:30 AM
CSAC Members: Debbie Decoteau, Helen Dezendorf, Lisa Gatewood-McMillan, Yuri Koslen, JoAnne McKnight, and Connie Schaller
Guests: Jonalyn Crite and Judi Leffe
Approval of Minutes: Minutes from the January 22nd meeting were approved.
Chair’s Report: JoAnne McKnight. JoAnne has written a preliminary report on the PACE recommendation. It is currently 29 pages. She will email it to CSAC for review. She asked that corrections or suggestions be sent to Helen by Wednesday (February 7) who will compile the final edit. The report is due by February 15th. Members interested in attending the UNC Staff Leaders conference on March 8th are: Judi, Yuri, JoAnne, Helen, Connie and Jonalyn. We will probably drive to Greensboro (NCA&T) the previous day so that we may attend the early morning session. We need to know if others want to attend so that we may assess our transportation needs. Connie will reserve a van.
Staff Text Book Scholarship: Debbie Decoteau. We are too late in the semester to make awards for Spring 07. We will begin this award next semester. Helen questions the appropriateness of using CSAC’s operating budget to fund this initiative. Debbie will check on this.
CSAC Talent Show: Lisa Gatewood-McMillan. Three or four people have signed on to perform in the talent show during the service awards breakfast next week. We hope to entice others to participate. We have some nice prizes including a pass for 20 meals in the dining hall and a hand made crochet quilt by Dot Sulock.
Outreach Program: Yuri Koslen. The committee decided to name the outreach program Voices of our Peers. This program will be voted on and discussed at the next meeting.
Employee Excellence Institute: Judi Leffe. This initiative was conceived by the Staff Assembly and is held every Monday. The Employee Excellence Institute is a series of teleconferenced meetings that brings information and expertise from campuses across the state and is available to every employee on every campus. While UNCA frequently has the highest attendance, this program is not being utilized. Judi will send out a message to campus reminding them of this opportunity.
CSAC Membership: Judi Leffe was appointed to CSAC by chair JoAnne McKnight. Welcome Judi. Each member has been asked to seek others who may be interested in serving on CSAC. We especially need staff members to represent Academic Affairs and Student Affairs.
Distinguished Staff Committee Report: JoAnne reports that this committee is still in the process of developing the guidelines and procedures for this award. This award has been broadened to include different areas including a team award as well as an individual award. The recipient will be invited to walk during commencement.
Chancellor’s Office Support Study Team Report: Debbie Decoteau. The first meeting of this committee was held a few weeks ago. This team will study various staff positions on campus to determine their similarities and differences. The initial stages include defining categories of tasks or skill sets for specific position titles and to determine which are distinct and non-distinct for each position. They are also attempting to identify the level and frequency of these tasks and how to place a value on them. This will ultimately be incorporated into the advancement and compensation schedule. They are studying academic support positions first and meeting with various departments. Carol Rovello is a consultant who is helping with this review process.
