Student Health Insurance Requirement
All undergraduate and graduate
students registered for 6 or more credit hours are required to have health
insurance coverage. Students can meet this requirement by being covered by
their own individual health plan or through their parents plan.
Students who do not have
health insurance will be required to be covered under the UNC Asheville group
policy and will be required to pay for that coverage.
Students who have heath
insurance must go to
www.studentinsurance.com and provide information regarding the policy under
which they are covered to apply for a waiver of the health insurance
requirement. Once their health insurance information is received, it will be
reviewed and verified. If their health insurance is verified, a waiver for the
student will be approved. This waiver will offset the health insurance charge
on the student’s account.
If the health insurance is not verified the student will be
enrolled in the UNC Asheville group health insurance policy.
Students registered for 6 or
more hours have until September 21st to apply for the health insurance waiver.
Students who fail to apply for the health insurance waiver or whose health
insurance coverage cannot be verified will be added to a UNC Asheville group
policy and will have to pay the $709.00 charge per semester for the health
insurance, even if they have existing
health insurance coverage.
