Construction of this $5.5-million bond-funded classroom building began in fall 2004 and was completed in January 2006.

The 31,855 square-foot building is located in the academic core of campus. New Hall is home to the History, Foreign Languages, Classics, Women's Studies and Philosophy departments, along with the Arts & Ideas and Humanities Programs and the Office of Academic Conferences and Institutes. New Hall offers an improved learning environment over older buildings, with a focus on classrooms that are designed to be very quiet and well-lit.

"Green" building design highlights include an innovative vegetative roof that minimizes rainwater runoff and provides a rooftop park setting, and geothermal heat pumps for heating and cooling, which is both cost-effective and environmentally friendly.

Project architects were Pearce, Brinkley, Cease & Lee of Asheville and the General Contractor was H&M Construction of Asheville.
