2/9/2012 "Caprice" by Vasily Polevoy An exhibition, "Caprice" by Vasily Polevoy, will be held on January 9th-February 28th, 2012. Polevoy's work can be seen throught the former USSR and more recently, his underground paintings from the pre-"glasnost" era have been shown in art galleries in Italy, Czechoslovakia, France, Germany, Israel and the USA. Polevoy's themes used to put him in one row with the so called "modernistic" and "lacking proper ideological orientation" artists. The style of Vasily Polevoy's works is fantastic and realistic, permeated with kind humor sometimes stretching out to grotesque and caricature with an incredible combination of both trickery and simple-heartedness.

2/17/2012 The Vagina Monologues VDay, an international organization that strives to end sexual violence against women, has an annual benefit performance of The Vagina Monologues, an award winning play by Eve Ensler. The play is about ninety minutes, and focuses on transnational female experiences with sexuality. The monologues are funny, poignant, and provocative- but there is a balance of comedy and tragedy to suit most audiences. Tickets are $5 for students, $7 for non-students, and all money raised goes to VDay and Ourvoice, a local resource for survivors of sexual assault. -More about VDay- UNC Asheville is proud to be a participant in the V-Day 2012 Campaign. We have been granted the rights for a V-Day benefit production of Eve Ensler's award winning play, “The Vagina Monologues” to raise money and awareness for local as well as international organizations that work to end sexual violence against women and girls. In 2011, over 4,000 V-Day benefit events took place, produced by volunteer activists in 130 countries around the world, educating millions of people about the reality of violence against women and girls both locally and globally. In 2012 UNC Asheville will host one of thousands of events around the world, channeling their creative energy into making a difference as part of the V-Day campaign. It is our intention to make V-Day 2012 UNC Asheville a huge success. This will be possible, in large part, through the assistance and generosity of our sponsors. Part of what makes this event so special is the opportunities it offers to businesses in local communities- to participate in this international movement, to celebrate and honor the women and girls in your life and community, to be part of a collective voice, a voice that refuses to be ignored, a voice that says NO to violence against women and girls. We will be donating 90% of the profits from our event to OURVOICE, a local non-profit organization that provides victim advocacy, outreach, intervention, counseling, and education to the women and girls of Western North Carolina. The remaining 10% is sent to VDay.

2/25/2012 "Caprice" by Vasily Polevoy An exhibition, "Caprice" by Vasily Polevoy, will be held on January 9th-February 28th, 2012.
